Candidates file for river authority's board

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio River Authority last week announced the candidates for the organization’s board of directors election, which will be held Feb. 1.

The board consists of 12 members. Six of them are elected by voters in Bexar County.

The remaining six directors are elected by the voters of Wilson, Karnes, and Goliad counties. Each county has two representatives.

The positions open for the upcoming election are districts 3 and 4 from Bexar County, and one at-large member in each of the other three counties. Only the two positions in Bexar County will be contested races.

The candidates for district 3 are Paul Dahlgren, Louis E. Rowe, and L. Henry Podesta.

The candidates for district 4 are Thomas G. Weaver and Billie A. Zimmerman. Rowe and Weaver are the incumbents of their respective districts.

The candidates for the other three counties are JC Turner, Wilson County; H.B. Ruckman III, Karnes County; and, Terry Baiamonte, Goliad County. Turner and Ruckman are incumbents in their respective counties.

The elections in the uncontested races were expected to be canceled during the board’s January meeting. __________________________
