Nannette Kilbey-Smith

Copy Editor

Nannette has led quite a bohemian life, and tried her hand at many different means of employment.

She has been a green plant specialist, caring for plants in indoor environments; a radio news announcer and disc jockey; a short-order cook and tea-room chef; an interior house painter; and a 911 dispatcher. She counts as her most enjoyable jobs a recent two-year stint as a library manager and teacher’s aide in a rural private school, and 9 years as an office manager/administrator for an international book publisher in London, England, where she lived for 15 years.

She confesses to a fascination with words, both spoken and written, and admits this stands her in good stead as copy editor for the Wilson County News. Nannette enjoys creating public service briefs and keeping up with the events throughout our readership area, and meeting and getting to know the wide variety of people in the area. She is also responsible for gathering the information for the newspaper’s “hatches, matches, and dispatches” — otherwise known as wedding and engagement announcements, obituaries and death notices, and similar items. Nannette brings a sympathetic touch and eye for detail and accuracy to these articles.

Our copy editor is happily married to a genuine Scotsman. They are the proud parents of two children who attend school in La Vernia ISD. Nannette and her family enjoy kite-flying, fishing, hiking, scouting, and movie nights at home. All are avid readers.

Nannette also enjoys home decorating, writing and reading for pleasure, watercolor painting, and creating in the kitchen — or laboratory, as sometimes transpires. She attended Troy State University and the University of the Incarnate Word, and holds a post-graduate certification in management from the South Bank University of London, England.
